First, you will need three boxes of crayons, a cardboard heart-shaped box (I got mine at Hobby Lobby), a hot-glue gun, and a bit of paint. Now, you can change this up however you want, just have fun with it!
1. Paint the top of your box, I used the color coconut. I was going for a bit of a rustic/vintage look. Don't worry about painting the sides, they will be completely covered!
2. After your paint has dried, go ahead and put whatever it is you want in the middle (should've made mine a bit bigger). Now, outline the box with all of your crayons for a test run. This is where I messed up. I did the outline but took out the browns because I didn't want to use them. Well then I realized about halfway through hot-gluing that I would actually need them because there wouldn't be enough without them. So just make sure you have a little extra that will go with your design just in case.
3. Now you get to hot-glue the crayons on! It's a bit time consuming, but honestly once you get your rhythm going and what feels comfy, it will fly by! I made the bottom of the crayon line up with the edge of the box. I really liked the way the crayons stuck out like that! I also turned them where the "crayola" name was face-up. For me, it was easiest gluing the box and then sticking the crayon on top.
And there ya go! Mine is by no means perfect, but I love it that way!
Have fun! =)
